Ace badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa said that she always looks forward to new and unique opportunities, challenges and goals to achieve in the process and excel as a player.

Ashwini Ponnappa rose to prominence for India after winning gold and silver in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles respectively at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and another gold medal in the mixed team event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games Gold Coast.

He was also instrumental in winning a silver medal for the Mixed Team at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Ashwini Ponnappa’s other victories include a bronze medal in women’s doubles at the Badminton World Championships in 2011 and 2018 in Commonwealth Gold Coast and a number of gold and silver medals at the South Asian Games and Asian Championships.

“As a professional badminton player, you are always looking forward to new and unique opportunities, challenges and goals to achieve and excel as a person and as a player in the process. “It is truly an honor to represent my country for so many years and I look forward to winning more medals for India at major events, particularly the Asian Games and Paris 2024 Games qualifiers,” Ashwini said.

Ashwini, who is currently ranked World No. 23 (Women’s Doubles), has been a doubles player since the beginning of her professional journey. Her first win at the national level was at the 2004 National Championships in the girls’ sub-junior doubles category. A year later, at the 2005 national championships, she retained her title and in 2006, she tasted victory by winning gold in the women’s doubles at the South Asian Games.
