“The Badminton World Federation (BWF) can announce that the BWF World Tour Finals 2022 will no longer be held in Guangzhou, China. The tournament has moved to Nimibutr Arena in Bangkok, Thailand and will be held for one week from December 7-11. Ahead of schedule for Guangzhou. This is due to the presence of the stadium and the change in the location,” the sports governing body said in a statement.

The BWF, in consultation with the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA), has agreed to move the tournament to Bangkok due to various challenges related to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in China.

The BWF thanked the CBA, the Guangzhou City Government and the Guangzhou Sports Bureau for their extraordinary work, and thanked the Badminton Association of Thailand for helping to provide an alternate venue for the tournament at such late notice.

Qualified players for the tournament will be confirmed on November 22 after the conclusion of the Australian Open 2022, which will be held from November 15 to November 20.

It is an annual event that takes place every year in December. The players with the highest points in BWF World Tour tournaments compete in this tournament.
