The BWF World Tour finals have been moved from Guangzhou, China to Bangkok, Thailand due to COVID-19, the Badminton World Federation announced on Tuesday.

In an official statement, the sport’s world governing body said that “the BWF, in consultation with the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA), has agreed to postpone the finals of the HSBC BWF World Tour 2022 due to various challenges arising from the current pandemic situation.”

The event in Bangkok will be held from December 7-11, a week ahead of the scheduled dates in Guangzhou due to stadium availability and a change in location.

After the conclusion of the Australian Open, the list of the top eight qualified athletes in each category will be confirmed in November.

As for India, HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu were the only two riders to qualify for the finals, but Sindhu withdrew on Sunday as she is yet to recover from a stress fracture in her left ankle that she sustained at the Commonwealth Games in August time this year where he won the gold.
