Badminton World Tour Finals Moved From China – Newspaper | Jobi Cool

BEIJING. China will no longer host the season-ending Badminton World Tour finals in December due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the sport’s governing body said on Tuesday.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) had planned to host the $1.5 million flagship event in Guangzhou from December 14 to 18, but the event will now be held in Bangkok the week before.

China has canceled almost all international sporting events since Covid arrived there in 2019, with the Beijing Winter Olympics in February this year being a rare exception.

The BWF said it decided to move the tournament after consulting the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA) “due to various challenges related to the current epidemic situation”.

The World Tour Finals, which will now take place at Nimibutr Arena in the Thai capital from December 7 to 11, will feature the top eight players and pairs in each category for their share of what the BWF has called “the biggest prize pool ever seen in badminton”. .
